So first I drew a grid on the canvas. Creating a line at every 2 inches
Then I started to outline the painting on the grid in burgundy acrylic paint.
But before I got to far I realized I did not like the out line, and the proportions were still off. So I covered the entire thing in a thick layer of acrylic while gesso. Using brush strokes on an inclining angle.
Then I decided just to start doing the painting without an underpainting and see how it goes. So I started with the background around the spear as my first proportion guide.
Then I continued the sky. only painting in the negative space.
